UK tourists are advised to exercise caution when visiting the Canary Islands due to a pre-alert issued by the local government. The warning covers areas with rough sea conditions and high tides, affecting several islands and their coastal regions.
UK tourists travelling to the Canary Islands have been warned as the state is under a 'pre-alert' due to ' coastal phenomena ' caused by rough sea conditions . Areas affected include the north and west coast of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and the north coast of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The warning came into effect on November 26 and remains active.
The Canary Islands Government declared the pre-alert following a forecast of northeasterly or easterly winds up to 19km/h, with some local areas experiencing winds up to 28km/h. High tides, rough sea conditions, and northwesterly swells up to 3.5m are expected. People are advised to stay away from piers, breakwaters, and unfamiliar beaches, and to avoid water sports. High tides are expected on November 27 at 10.30am to 11.05am and 11pm to 11.30pm. The UK Foreign Office also advises caution when swimming in the Canaries
