The UK Foreign Office has issued an update after five people were killed in the attack
UK tourists travelling to Turkey could face increased security at airports in the country, the Foreign Office has warned. The measures come following a terrorist attack on a Turkish Aerospace Industries' facility in Kahramankazan on Wednesday, October 23.
Assailants set off explosives and opened fire in an attack on the premises of Turkish state-run aerospace and defence company TUSAS, around 40k from the capital Ankara. Five people were killed in the attack and 22 people were injured. Two of the assailants were also killed in the incident. Turkey’s president condemned the attack, called it a “heinous terrorist attack”.Security checks at airports across the country have been tightened after the incident. Holidaymakers are warned of longer waits, while those who are in the area near to where the attack took place are urged to follow the guidance of local authorities and monitor the media.
In an update on its travel advice for Turkey, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “On 23 October there was a terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries’ facility in Kahramankazan, 40km northwest of central Ankara, which resulted in 5 deaths and 22 injuries, as well as the deaths of the two assailants.
“While the incident has ended, the response is ongoing, including increased security measures at Turkish airports, which means security checks will take longer than normal. If you are in the area near the attack, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local media.”
