The UK has been basking in unseasonably warm weather for the majority of September but forecasts have suggested that the weather could be about to take a turn for the worse
Brace yourselves for a chilly start to October as an Arctic blast is set to send temperatures tumbling across the UK, following a spell of unseasonably warm weather. Weather experts are predicting a gusty autumn with winds picking up speed. Despite enjoying a warmer than usual September, it seems the arrival of October could also herald a drop in temperatures.
According to the latest WXCharts, we can expect a significant dip on Thursday, October 3, with Scotland potentially seeing lows of -1C. However, it's not just the cold that Brits need to worry about rain could be the real spoiler as September ends. A colossal 350-mile-wide rainstorm is forecasted to sweep across Britain on Tuesday, September 24.
Elsewhere, it's set to be largely settled, save for some low clouds and drizzle along North Sea coasts; elsewhere most can expect temperatures above the seasonal average. A brief respite with calmer weather may arrive early next week before a shift towards more unpredictable conditions takes hold by midweek, with wind and rain commonplace, but also with chances for drier and sunnier breaks, reports the Mirror.
Looking at the first fortnight of October, a Met Office spokesperson highlights: "Typical autumn weather will probably affect the UK with a mix of weather types through the first half of October. Periods of unsettled conditions, with wind and rain at times, will likely be interspersed with shorter spells of calmer and drier weather."
She continued: "Overall, wetter than average conditions are expected during this period, especially in central and southern areas. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above average overall, although some cooler spells are possible at times."
