In a lengthy twitter thread, Alexei Navalny, the outspoken Kremlin critic who is currently imprisoned on slander charges, has tweeted to say that people should protest the war. He says his imprisonment means he is able to call for peace, and that others should go to Russian embassies to protest.
Russia continues to close in on Kyiv - Klitschko Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, said Russian troops are continuing to edge closer to the centre of the Ukrainian capital. Earlier, it was reported a long convoy of Russian vehicles was 18 miles from Kyiv. Speaking to Sky News, British man Ian Umney, in Nikopol in Ukraine, northwest of Mariupol, has travelled back into the country to get to his family. "I was woken very early by my wife and she mentioned that they had started bombing, and then with five coffees in my system I was up, I was frantic, the news was on and I was shook to the core.He added that his family and friends tried to talk him out of making the journey to Ukraine, but said that"love transcends war". He says that after reaching the border he helped a team of people ferrying women, children and soldiers inland, before heading onto a train into Nikopol. Describing his reunion as"emotional", Mr Umney said that reuniting with his wife and children was the best feeling ever. Despite the risks and wanting to bring his wife and child back to the UK, Mr Umney says he will end up staying to help the Ukrainian effort, and to stay close to his father who lives nearby.09:41:06Officials in Ukraine have released an updated estimate of the number of Russian troops killed during the seven-day conflict. Between 24 February and 2 March, Ukraine claims a total of 5,840 Russians were killed at war. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the number was close to 6,000.
