What was discussed has been kept under wraps, with no official documents released after the summit, but Mr Kim told the Russian president he was certain Moscow would be victorious in its"sacred fight". The meeting was held against the backdrop of the conflict, which rumbled on yesterday. Here's a reminder of the other key events from the past day:
Arrested in 2018 in Russia, Whelan was convicted of espionage in 2020 and sentenced to 16 years in a facility in Mordovia, a Russian region southeast of Moscow. Speaking today, state department spokesman Matthew Miller told a briefing:"Ambassador Tracy did meet with Paul Whelan earlier today. It was a consular visit.
"This threatens food shortages in countries that depend on Ukrainian agricultural products," he said on X. He said Russia needed artillery shells and he was"betting" that Kim needed money, food and cheap oil.
