Ukraine's prospective membership to NATO has been at the centre of talks at the two-day summit in Lithuania. "It means Zelenskyy will be able to call a meeting with his NATO allies, he'll be able to consult with them and he'll have the right to do that. I think his language today has been less annoyance."It would be"potentially very dangerous" for the West to give Ukraine security guarantees, the Kremlin's spokesman has warned.
He also dismissed claims the Wagner mercenary group intended to acquire nuclear devices during its failed mutiny in June. Andriy Kovaliov, a spokesperson for the armed forces general staff, referred to sectors of the frontline south of the eastern city. In its latest assessment of the conflict, the Institute for the Study of War said:"Russian forces conducted a series of Shahed 131 and 136 drone strikes across Ukraine on 11 July, likely in a demonstrative response to the 2023 NATO Summit in Vilnius and to threaten the Black Sea grain deal."
