Ukraine is expected to receive the first of its long-anticipated F-16 deliveries in the next few weeks.
Ukraine may be targeting Russia's air defenses ahead of U.S-built F-16 fighter jets arriving in the country, according to a new assessment, as Kyiv says it has taken out a slew of expensive air defense assets stationed near its borders.'Ukrainian forces may seek to actively degrade Russian air defenses before Ukraine receives a significant number of aircraft,' the U.S. think tank, the Institute for the Study of War said on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Ukraine's military said its forces had destroyed S-300 and S-400 air defense radar systems in an overnight strike on Crimea. The systems were stationed near one of Russia's military airfields close to the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, where Ukraine has repeatedly struck Russia's Black Sea naval fleet, Kyiv said. Russian military bloggers and Ukrainian sources reported that ATACMS were used.
