Volodymyr Zelensky is on his way to Washington to meet Joe Biden in his first trip outside the country since Russia’s invasion in February
US lawmakers are preparing to vote on a £37 billion pacakge of emergency assistance to Ukraine, with Mr Biden set to announce that the Pentagon will supply Kyiv with Patriot surface-to-air missiles to help defend the country against barrages of Russian missiles.
Mr Zelensky tweeted: “On my way to the US to strengthen resilience and defense capabilities of Ukraine. In particular, @POTUS and I will discuss cooperation between the US and Ukraine.and I will discuss cooperation between 🇺🇦 and 🇺🇸. It comes after Mr Zelensky made an unannounced visit to unannounced visit to the city of Bakhmut, the scene of a months-long bitter battle between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
