Ukraine's military claims to have 'destroyed' a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber inside Russian territory

Ukrainian forces have shot down a Russian Su-34 warplane in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian military said on Wednesday.

The claim has not been independently confirmed. Russian military bloggers with close connections to the Russian air force denied the claim and Russian officials have not commented on the report. Ukraine’s General Staff also claimed to have taken more than 100 Russian prisoners of war and advanced by more than a kilometre in the Kursk region on Wednesday.President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Kursk operation was not at the expense of the front lines inside Ukraine, where Russian forces have advanced in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine claims to be in control of about 1000 square kilometres of the Kursk region, including the town of Sudzha and dozens of other settlements. Fighting was reported in several locations to the north and east of the territory occupied by Ukraine on Wednesday.
