Britain’s largest engineering company said its order intake for 2021 totalled £37.1bn as demand for weapons soared, with countries rushing to bolster their defences
for the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy, Astute class nuclear submarines, and Typhoon jets for the Royal Air Force.
Contract talks with countries including the Czech Republic and Slovakia are moving faster than expected because of “the threat environment and the [Russian] invasion”. Mr Woodburn said.The arms maker said previously it was considering restarting production of the M777 howitzer after its performance on Ukrainian battlefields revived interest in the weapon.
Mr Woodburn said it was another year of strong results for the group, adding: “This is just the start. I still see tremendous potential ahead. We are investing in the business to support the future. We have leading technology solutions for our customers.”
