Joe Biden appears to deliver a message to Vladimir Putin here, telling the crowd:"The appetites of the autocrat cannot be appeased - they can only be opposed. He continues:"Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia."

Mr Biden says that one year ago the"world was bracing for the fall of Kyiv" - which stands"tall, proud" and"most importantly... free". Mr Biden says that Vladimir Putin had expected the Ukrainian people to"roll over" when its tanks entered on 24 February."Instead of an easy victory he perceived and predicted, Putin left with burnout tanks and Russia's forces in disarray."

"But the autocrats of the world have grown weaker, not stronger because in the moments of great upheaval and uncertainty knowing what you stand for is most important.Mr Biden says this is what"solidarity means".The US president's much-awaited speech has started in the Polish capital of Warsaw, where he has been meeting President Andrzej Duda.

His speech comes hours after Vladimir Putin gave a two-hour-long address in which he blamed the war in Ukraine on the West releasing the"genie from the bottle".'No place for business as usual' - Polish president
