Just two days before, satellite imagery shows part of the road running over the top of the spillway had been severely damaged. It's not known what caused this, and the flow of water does not at this stage appear to have been affected. However, proving who was responsible for the damage would take time, and could probably only be achieved once access to the area can be secured. Although deliberate blowing of the dam would constitute a war crime, this would simply be added to a growing list of atrocities committed by the Russians and is unlikely to be of any material concern to President Putin in the near term.
Notwithstanding the wider implications, the threat of Russia blowing the dam is no longer a factor in Ukraine's military plans, and as the floodwaters subside, so the Dnipro river will shrink over the summer and Ukraine's offensive options expand once again.
