Explaining his recent meeting with Vladimir Putin, Mr Erdogan said he failed to get him to resume the Black Sea grain deal the Kremlin withdrew from in July, but elicited a pledge for Russia to supply one million tons of grain to Africa. Turkey and Mr Erdogan have been important figures in the conflict in Ukraine, and Ankara has maintained close ties with Moscow but has also provided military aid to Kyiv during the war.
