Stop fighting or face destruction, Belarus warns Ukraine; Poland declines offer of air defences | War live updates
Live reporting by Emily Mee and Bhvishya Patel. Updates from Alex Rossi in Ukraine and Diana Magnay in MoscowWe have been reporting this week on the blackouts Ukraine has been experiencing as Russian forces continue to target critical infrastructure in the country.
The former British prime minister has been given the title of honorary citizen of Ukraine's capital. "Johnson has done and, I am sure, will continue to do everything possible to ensure that Great Britain and world leaders provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine. Thanks for support! We are waiting in Kyiv again to present this honorable award!" he said.
Speaking to CNN, he claimed Germany had wanted the war to be over quickly - something that has since been denied by Berlin - and that France had been in"denial". 'We're open for business': CIA looking to recruit Russians who are as 'disgusted' by Ukraine war In his comments, which were first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the intelligence official also said"Putin was at his best moment the day before he invaded" because he had"all the power that he is ever going to have".Moscow denies hitting Kyiv with missiles
In highly controversial comments, the Belarusian leader told reporters:"Everything is in Ukraine's hands now if they don't want a huge number of people to die. While Belarus has not entered the conflict directly or sent in its own troops, experts have speculated that this could happen. Moldova has accused Russia of plunging its country of 2.6 million people into darkness and Moscow's ambassador was summoned for an explanation. In comments likely to be condemned by Ukraine and its allies, the Kremlin has said Kyiv could"end the suffering" of its population by meeting Russia's demands to resolve the conflict.
Ukraine is highly unlikely to meet these demands, and Western allies have repeatedly said Kyiv should not have to bow to Russia to end the war. The Kremlin has signalled it will hit back at countries imposing a price cap on Russian oil by refusing to provide supplies. However, EU governments have not yet agreed on a price and talks are set to continue.
