The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) has written to other European associations asking them to boycott matches against Russia’s under-17 teams after it was announced they would be allowed to compete in UEFA competitions this season. Russia’s national teams and clubs have been banned from UEFA and FIFA competitions since the end of last February due to the invasion of Ukraine. The UAF has now written to fellow European nations asking them to join the boycott, calling the partial lifting of the ban a “hazardous and terrifying trend”.
“However, this actually contradicts UEFA’s commitment to combat violence and aggression, as according to the official UN statistics only — over 1,600 Ukrainian children, from new-born to youngsters, were killed or wounded by Russian terrorists , thousands were tortured, kidnapped and taken by force to Russia, hundreds of thousands lost their homes or were forced to leave the home and normal life going to seek protection from the war.
