Five months after their shock offensive into Russia, Ukrainian troops fear all they have lost in Kursk may be for nothing. Mykhailo, 46, a doctor in Ukraine’s 82nd Brigade, stabilizes a soldier named Vova as his colleagues drain the young man’s lung of around 500 milliliters of blood.
