The United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency condemned a drone strike on the Russian-controlled Zaporizhizhia nuclear power plant but did not place blame on Ukraine.Blame Game: Russian officials accused Ukraine of being behind the attack via the power plant’s official Telegram channel, but Ukraine has denied responsibility.IAEA head Rafael Grossi said there were “at least three direct hits” against the plant's “main reactor containment structures.
In a statement posted to X, the IAEA stressed that the damage at the Russian-controlled facility “has not compromised nuclear safety.” ZNPP, in southeastern Ukraine, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and among the largest in the world. Russian military forces captured it in 2022 following the full scale invasion of Ukraine and have remained in control of the plant ever since.A new drone attack on Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia power plant has raised the risk of a"major nuclear accident", the UN's atomic watchdog has warned.
