Emmanuel Clase's stellar season continued Wednesday when he tied Cleveland's all-time saves record.
“It’s unbelievable what he does every day,” said starting pitcher Tanner Bibee after Clase closed out his 39th save and tied Cody Allen for Cleveland’s all-time franchise lead at 149. Clase’s dominance since the start of the season has been unmatched. And his willingness to pitch as often and as long as necessary at any time has not gone unnoticed in Cleveland’s clubhouse.Guardians vs.
Clase will have a chance to own Cleveland’s saves mark outright when Pittsburgh opens a three-game set at Progressive Field on Friday. Catcher Bo Naylor says Clase’s competitive nature is a game-changer for the Guardians. “All you can control is getting a good pitch and hitting it hard,” Vogt said. “Nayls did that last night, and I think that could be a huge step in the right direction.”
“He always used to say, ‘You never know which rep you’re going to feel what you’re searching for or what you’re looking for,’” Vogt said. “Each individual swing, play, or pitch, you can feel something new and be able to repeat it.”
