Nottinghamshire County Council says it is too early to say how plans to reorganise local government may affect its exit from County Hall

Nottinghamshire County Council says plans to leave County Hall and move to its new £18 million headquarters may be affected by a huge shake-up of local government. Work on the Oak House building in Hucknall is still set to be completed by March 2025 and the county council was set to leave its historic County Hall home in West Bridgford at that point.

The county council leader has said he will fight "tooth and nail" to preserve its existing boundaries. Yet with other options including an expanded Nottingham City Council moving into parts of Gedling and Ashfield, some have suggested the county council may end up having to give Oak House away "very soon".Asked if it could still commit to leaving County Hall as planned, the county council was unable to do so.

Yet the council has said moving out of the aging County Hall will save millions over the coming years. County Hall ended up having to close for most of the morning on Wednesday after a water issue meant that toilets could not be flushed, with a planned public meeting having to be cancelled. The final business case is set to be laid out in the coming months. Councillor Jason Zadrozny, leader of the Nottinghamshire County Independent Group on the county council, now believes the March exit from County Hall is unrealistic.
