There are fears of violence between travelling Atalanta and Eintracht Frankfurt fans clashing with Grand National racegoers
Merseyside Police will deploy undercover officers next week to combat the potential threat posed by travelling football fans and Grand National racegoers.
The ECHO previously reported how hooligans, wearing Atalanta FC merchandise and covering their faces with scarves and balaclavas, attacked customers in a Kings Dock restaurant before the match, which was won by the Italian club 5-1. However, the violence peaked the previous night when a group of football ultras were told they could not enter the Soho club in Concert Square.
Ahead of the match, the ECHO asked Merseyside Police if the force had additional measures in place to counter any potential violence between the football clubs, and if the policing of the match would be made more difficult by the presence of the Grand National crowd.
