Data released by the Office of National Statistics showed that from May to July 2023 the estimated unemployment rate for those aged 16 and over was 4.3 per cent.There were 122,000 people aged 16 and over unemployed and 2,689,000 in employment between May and July this year.
Estimates from HMRC show 30,000 more people are on a payroll than in August 2022, with a total of 2.45 million. "The increase in the unemployment rate over the quarter and the year for those aged 16 and over across Scotland reflects the ongoing challenges facing the economy amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, compounded by high inflation and interest rates.
Daniel Johnson, Scottish Labour economy spokesman, said: "This is the latest bout of grim economic news under the SNP and the Tories.
