The price increase will see some staff paying over £1,000 a year for a permit
The University of Nottingham says it encourages all staff to use public transport as it brings in a parking increase that will see some paying more than £1,000 a year. A 16% hike in the cost of an annual parking permit has taken effect across all University of Nottingham campuses, including its Jubilee Campus and University Park site.
Prices last year saw the lowest paid staff with the lowest emission vehicles paying £81, which will now increase to £93.96. The highest paid staff with the highest emission vehicles paid £898 for the annual permit last year, which will now increase to £1,041.68.
The university said it has had to bring the increase in after Nottingham City Council increased its workplace parking levy by 14%. The remaining 2% relates to the fact that the university will no longer subsidise staff car parking, which it views as "unfair" given it does not subsidise public transport costs.
