Outgoing Australian Workers Union national secretary Daniel Walton says as the private sector continues to increase employment, union membership needs to grow at the same pace.
“I think the challenge for my successor and the challenge for leaders going forward is being able to get that proposition at scale to get people to join,” Mr Walton told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
“That is one of the hardest bits that trade unions are trying to grapple with … it’s not keeping pace with total employment growth, so union density is declining.”
