Millions of public sector workers will be given 5% pay rise, reports suggest 🔴 The offer would amount to a real-terms pay cut by failing to match inflation, unions say, and could trigger a round of strike action.
Annual pay reviews for almost half of public sector workers – including nurse are due to be paid shortly. Unions have described reports that the Government is planning to give millions of public sector workers a below-inflation 5 per cent pay rise as “totally unacceptable”.
Another claimed pay rises of around 5 per cent were expected despite former chancellor Rishi Sunak hoping to keep pay rises to 2 per cent, theBut unions say the rise is unacceptable and a cut to pay in real terms as it fails to even match inflation, which currently stands at around 11 per cent. “If more staff leave, the health service will soon be unable to cope, making queues for tests and treatment even longer.
TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Unions will study the details of any offer very closely because this PM can’t be trusted on public sector pay.
