All four members of The Beatles used the equipment after it was used to record Abbey Road
A piece of equipment used by The Beatles to record their final studio album is being auctioned. The band recorded ‘Abbey Road’ in London in 1969, using a EMI TG12345 console to perfect its revolutionary sound.
Dave Harries, who participated in numerous Beatles recording sessions with the console in the 1960s, said: "Abbey Road is one of the best albums that's ever been made, and it sounds so good because of this recording console. Because of the way that Abbey Road was recorded, the album has a distinctive sound that hallmarked the future of pop recording."
The console was disassembled and sat unused for more than 50 years but it has been restored over the past five years under the watchful eye of Beatles collaborator and former EMI engineer Brian Gibson.
