"United says the missing panel wasn't discovered until the plane landed safely in Medford and that pilots had no idea during the flight that something had happened," the media outlet noted. The news comes nearly a week after a 62-year-old Boeing whistleblower from Louisiana died in Charleston. John Barnett died from what the Charleston County Coroner's Office described as "what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound" on March 9.In 2019, Barnett told the BBC that due to pressure, workers had been "deliberately fitting sub-standard parts to aircraft on the production line.

At the time of his death, Barnett had been in Charleston for legal interviews for a lawsuit against the company, according to reports from the BBC.
