The Heersink family continues to give back, in the hopes of revolutionizing healthcare education.
Dr. Marnix Heersink of Dothan and his wife Martha donated $2.3 million to the university to help address the physician shortage in the state of Alabama.
“I think the Wiregrass is medically underserved and it’s well known for that,” said Dr. Marnix Heersink, a Dothan-based ophthalmologist.“We have a population that deserves better and more care,” said Heersink.They then decided to donate $2.3 million to the University of Alabama Birmingham , a place known for developing sharp medical students.
