A cable was 'ripped from the roof' of the busy tunnel
The Blind Tunnel in the North of Glasgow first closed on December 13 after reports that a traffic cable was"ripped from the roof".
The busy tunnel road at Darnick Street in Germiston is set to remain closed for days as repair works are carried out. A Traffcom update issued at 14.10 on Friday afternoon warned that essential repair works were due to take place from Sunday, December 18 to Friday, December 23 and the tunnel will be closed during that time.
It was reported on Tuesday that a traffic signal cable had been"ripped from the roof, cut and hanging down" causing traffic signals to be dark"on all sides". The Traffcom update said:"The works at this site are currently ongoing to undertake a permanent repair."This requires an upgrade to the traffic signal equipment which is due to start on Sunday December 18 until Friday December 23.Diversions for motorists are as follows:Petershill Road – Left onto Red Road, right onto Broomfield Road, right onto Royston Road.
