The Yankees, one of the most popular organizations in MLB history with 27 World Series titles since established in 1903, selected former Headland High Rams' pitching standout Bryce Cunningham in the second round of Sunday night’s MLB Amateur Draft. He was the 53rd pick overall in the draft.

People are also reading… The 21-year-old Cunningham, a 2021 Headland graduate, and the 31-year-old Holmes, a 2011 Slocomb graduate, have never played together. The Yankees have $8,134,500 overall in slot value and bonus pool money available for their draft picks, according to Baseball America. Cunningham was both a starter and a reliver in his first two years at Vanderbilt before moving into the starting rotation for most of his junior season, starting 16 of his 18 appearances. He amassed an 11-8 record with a 4.95 earned run average and two saves over 46 career appearances, including 25 as a starter. He struck out 168 batters over 160 innings.
