Western Sydney residents have been told to be on alert for symptoms amid concerns they may have been exposed to the highly contagious disease after an infant spent time at different locations on Monday.

The infant spent time in Parramatta on Monday March 27 before they were diagnosed with the highly contagious disease at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

The child contracted the infection in India – where there is currently a global outbreak of more than 45,000 cases – before returning to Sydney. Venues where residents may have been exposed on Monday have been limited to Westfield Parramatta from 9am-10am, Argyle Street Medical Centre from 9.15am-10am and the hospital's emergency department waiting room from 12pm-9.30pm.

NSW Health is urging people to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after a Western Sydney infant diagnosed with the infection spent time in locations in Parramatta and Westmead on Monday 27 March while infectious.
