All events and activities have now been cancelled due to a serious public health risk
An urgent warning has been issued in Merseyside after a toxicology report confirmed a deadly toxin has been found. The harmful substance presents a serious public health risk and, as a result, all activities and events in the area have been cancelled until further notice. The substance was discovered in the waters around Crosby Marine Lake and has been confirmed as the highly toxic blue-green algae.
Therefore, in cases of suspected blue-green algae, the official advice is always to err on the side of caution. A warning was issued by Sefton Council last week after blue-green algae was suspected to have grown in the water around the mariner. Protocol in these instances is for water samples to be collected and sent to the Environment Agency for a toxicology report.
