The University of Rhode Island is mourning the loss of a longtime staff member who has died almost 10 days after she was struck by a car on campus.that Maureen McDermott, the director of student involvement and the Memorial Union, succumbed to injuries Friday that she had sustained in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on the Kingston Campus earlier this month.
The university said it has been in close contact with McDermott's family, and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to them and to McDermott's many friends, colleagues and students. She was an important part of the fabric of the school community, Reynolds wrote, serving as a compassionate advisor to students and an advocate for all of the school's more than 100 campus organizations.
