Vance argued that Europe's greatest danger stems from within, citing examples like the case of an ex-serviceman convicted for praying silently outside an abortion clinic. He urged European leaders to protect free speech and address illegal immigration.
J.D. Vance today claimed free speech is 'in retreat' in Britain and across Europe as the US Vice-President delivered an astonishing attack on America's allies.
'If you're running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you, nor, for that matter, is there anything that you can do for the American people who elected me and elected President Trump.' 'There is a new sheriff in town,' Mr Vance said, referring to Donald Trump's return to the White House.
Mr Vance said: 'A little over two years ago, the British government charged Adam Smith-Connor, a 51-year-old physiotherapist and an Army veteran, with the heinous crime of standing 50 metres from an abortion clinic and silently praying for three minutes, not obstructing anyone, not interacting with anyone, just silently praying on his own.
Mr Vance cited the example of Adam Smith-Connor, who was arrested after he refused to leave a safe zone around an abortion clinic designed to protect vulnerable women The case preceded the enforcement of the Public Order Act 2023, which introduced new rules on safe access zones outside all abortion clinics following a free vote in Parliament that received cross-party support.
