The US government issued a warning that Huawei poses a risk to its interests and allies due to concerns over the Chinese tech giant’s closeness with the Beijing authorities. According to the Daily Telegraph, May overruled five ministers who expressed concern that the company’s involvement might provide a route for Chinese spying.Gavin Williamson was later sacked as defence secretary after the Prime Minister said there was ‘compelling evidence’ he was behind the leak.Asked whether the US could cut off security co-operation with Britain if Huawei wins contracts, Coons told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘It’s certainly possible.
