A 4D photogrammetry model of USS Harder wreck site A storied US Navy submarine that sunk during World War 2 eight decades ago has been discovered 3,000 below the surface of the ocean. The USS Harder was found off of Luzon, an island in the Philippines, after it was last known to be traveling through the South China Sea off of the island. It was commissioned on December 2, 1942 with Cmdr Samuel Dealey in charge. The USS Harder got lost on August 24, 1944, with 79 on board.
Sunken submarines can be difficult to identify, making the feat all the more celebrated. ‘Harder was lost in the course of victory. We must not forget that victory has a price, as does freedom,’ stated NHHC Director Samuel J Cox ‘We are grateful that Lost 52 has given us the opportunity to once again honor the valor of the crew of the “Hit ‘em HARDER” submarine that sank the most Japanese warships – in particularly audacious attacks – under her legendary skipper, Cmdr Sam Dealey.
