'Useless' police and council took nine weeks to remove van blocking pavement, blasts wheelchair user

A wheelchair user has slammed Lancashire County Council and the police as ‘utterly useless’ when it comes to removing vehicles illegally parked on the pavement.

It also called for action on vehicles parked on pavements as they too caused problems for the visually impaired and wheelchair users. Trinity ward’s Cllr Hurt said: “Since the motion was passed neither I nor anyone I have spoken to has seen any significant changes whatsoever.

“Nine weeks is how long it took for the obstruction to be cleared and that was after the owner of the vehicle removed it after receiving a ticket. It wasn’t actually removed by the police. “The travel hierarchy puts pedestrian at the very top of the priority list so why are Lancashire County Council and the police putting at the very bottom. This is active discrimination against disabled people pure and simple.
