United States Postal Service letter carriers will be doing more than just delivering mail this Saturday. As part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, they will collect food donations to benefit local pantries.

“Currently, more than 44 million Americans are unsure where their next meal will come from. More than 13 million are children who feel hunger’s impact on their overall health and ability to perform in school. Nearly 5.5 million seniors over age 60 are food insecure, with many who live on fixed incomes often too embarrassed to ask for help,” the USPS said in a news release.
USPS said food banks get a majority of donations during the holidays, and many pantries are depleted by the spring. Those who want to participate in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive can leave non-perishable food donations in a bag by their mailbox on Saturday, and letter carriers will do the rest.Copyright 2024 by KSAT - All rights reserved.Ivan Herrera has worked as a journalist in San Antonio since 2016.
