Austal USA launched the final Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship, USS Pierre (LCS 38), to enhance the US Navy's maritime capabilities.
Pierre, christened in May, is the Navy’s 19th and final Independence-variant LCS, which will be deployed in the Pacific.This is the newest and final ship of the Navy’s independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship program.
“Our industry teams work methodically alongside our Navy partners to improve this innovative process with each launch evolution, guaranteeing the Navy a quality product delivered on time and on budget.”It will be deployed to the Pacific fleet area, which supports forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence. The LCS is a fast, agile, mission-focused platform designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats.
The LCS class consists of two variants, the Freedom variant and the Independence variant, designed and built by two industry teams.
