The Utah Jazz are continuing their 50th season celebration by recognizing the legacy of a woman who made franchise history in its earliest days: the late Lusia
Fri, March 29th 2024 at 1:54 PM Harris. Harris, a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame athlete, is the only woman to be officially drafted into the NBA when she was selected by the New Orleans Jazz in the 7th round of the 1977 NBA Draft.
That moment is just one of her many achievements, which extend to her time playing in college shortly after Title IX was established and as a member of the first-ever women’s basketball team to compete for the United States in the Olympics . This week the Utah Jazz released a mini-feature documentary that pays homage to the icon who helped set a standard of excellence in women’s basketball and continues to inspire many, even after she passed away in 2022.
The new feature includes interviews with Lusia’s daughters Crystal Washington and Christina Jordan, who speak to Lusia’s legacy and recount her role as a nurturing mother. It also includes perspective from her former teammate and friend, Ann Meyers Drysdale.
