Utahn River Barry is being awarded one of the highest honors a civilian can receive for acts of heroism - The Carnegie Medal - for saving a BASE jumper in 2022
River Barry , of Millcreek , Utah , works as a mental health therapist, but you wouldn't know it by glimpsing inside her home.
“I look up into the distance and see this person dangling by their parachute on the rocks,” she said.It was a route no one had ever climbed, but she relied on her climbing experience, and just went into what she called “go-mode.", Barry delegated tasks to bystanders before she began the ascent, knowing that there was a possibility the jumper could fall at any minute, but not knowing for certain if he was still alive.
