Monday marked four years since a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Magna.

The quake hit just after 7 a.m. on March 18, 2020, and was felt across the Wasatch Front and beyond, even as far as Wyoming.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 3.1 miles away from Magna in northwestern Salt Lake Valley.Salt Lake County Emergency Management posted on social media on Monday to remind Utahns about earthquake preparations they can take., held this year on April 18. The event entails earthquake drills at work, school, or home, practicing earthquake safety and other aspects of emergency plans.

No major injuries were reported during the mainshock or aftershocks of Utah's quake in 2020, but they did causeof the Wasatch fault because of it, adding that ground shaking in future events may also be higher than previously thought because of the fault’s shallower depth.has detected 2,589 aftershocks in the Magna, area from March 18, 2020, through February 28, 2021. The largest two reported were 4.6-magnitude aftershocks that also happened on March 18.

People can reduce their risk in an earthquake by remembering to drop, cover and hold on. State agencies suggested having a minimum of a two-week supply of water, food, medicine and other necessities. Also, be prepared for long disruptions to utilities like power, water and sewer.
