Robbie Butler, the deputy leader of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), has expressed confidence in the party's future success under Mike Nesbitt's leadership. Speaking ahead of the UUP's annual conference this weekend, Butler highlighted their 'quite ambitious plans' for electoral gains.
The UUP 's Deputy Leader Robbie Butler has said that the party have "quite ambitious plans for electoral success" under the leadership of Mike Nesbitt .
When asked how Mike intends to balance his ministerial portfolio with the job of leading the Ulster Unionist Party, Robbie said that Mike is an "incredibly able and talented individual." "I will obviously take my direction from Mike.So Mike will have that leadership role to perform within the executive leadership sphere and I will support him in the areas where he needs me to support him, and that will develop over time but I'm absolutely committed to ensuring that I fulfil that role," he said.
"Now what I will say is that the MLAsthat I have in the team and I work with are incredibly talented, and they're there on their own merit and have the electoral support. But do I want to see it differently?Does Mike want to see it differently? We absolutely do. "I'm very clear in what I think brings electoral success, and that's work, and it's hard work and it's being embedded in your community.
"I think the first thing is not to be offended by the fact that some people are trying to sell the vision of a United Ireland. That's a legitimate constitutional political aim, and it is not mine. When asked to reflect on his tenure as deputy leader thus far, and how the UUP has evolved Robbie said that it is about being "authentic".
