As spring approaches, so does peak bloom for the University of Washington's iconic cherry blossom trees.

UPDATE ON MONDAY, MARCH 18: The University of Washington said Monday that 50-60% of buds at the Quad were in bloom, and peak bloom is expected by Tuesday at the latest.peak bloom — meaning 70% of buds have emerged — at the UW Quad was likely to begin after March 20, prior to Monday's announcement.
As of Friday, more than half of the cherry trees in the Quad were at the “peduncle elongation” stage of bud development, "during which the stalks supporting the florets grow longer," UW News wrote. "It is one of the last stages before the florets open and the bloom season begins. The remaining cherry trees in the Quad are also progressing normally, albeit one or two days behind.
