The superintendent of Uxbridge Public Schools has been arrested on drunk driving charges. Michael Baldassarre, 51, a resident of Concord, was apprehended by Massachusetts State Police on Saturday morning after being observed driving at a high rate of speed, nearly causing a collision on Interstate 495 in Bolton. Baldassarre faces charges of operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent driving, along with civil infractions for speeding and marked lanes violation.
He was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment in Clinton District Court on Tuesday.According to court documents, Baldassarre was stopped by a trooper at 2:40 am on Saturday. The trooper noted that Baldassarre's vehicle had narrowly avoided colliding with another car before being pulled over. The trooper's report states that Baldassarre exhibited signs of intoxication, including red, glassy, and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol. When questioned about his alcohol consumption, Baldassarre admitted to having had a couple of drinks. He was subsequently asked to exit his vehicle and perform field sobriety tests, which he either failed or refused to complete.Police described Baldassarre as 'uncooperative' during his transport to the Leominster barracks. Investigators found a receipt from a Worcester bar on Baldassarre's person, listing wine, liquor, and beer as charges. Baldassarre claimed to have been driving home to Concord from Worcester. The Uxbridge School Committee is scheduled to vote on an interim superintendent on Tuesday, according to the meeting agenda
