A Vacaville police officer was struck by a car while conducting a traffic stop Thursday and died in the line of duty, the department said.
Officer Matthew Bowen was killed around 11 a.m. at Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive when he was struck by a car, police said in a Facebook post. That driver then struck multiple other cars before coming to a stop. The driver, only identified so far as a woman by witnesses, tried to walk away from the crash.
Police did not identify that person or explain the circumstances of the situation, which the department called "tragic" in their post. Bowen began working for Vacaville last June. Before that, he was a Concord police officer, the department said."He has served with the highest level of dedication and honor, and his loss is deeply felt by the Department, the City and the community," Vacaville police posted. He is survived by his wife, two sons, parents and brother.
