The Valorant studio head has teased that transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 could 'expand the Val universe into new playable experiences'.

It’s been a big year for Valorant so far. We’ve had two new agents through episodes 8 and 9, the multiplayer shooter finally landed on PS5 and Xbox consoles, and there’s also been a new map. While all of this has been fantastic, Riot has now announced that the game is soon switching to UE5. Not all of the details have been revealed yet, but Riot has teased that Valorant moving to Unreal Engine 5 could “expand the Val universe into new playable experiences”.

There is an acknowledgement that Valorant isn’t the most impressive game on the market visually, but the Unreal Engine has been a huge asset in providing a strong foundation and allowing Riot to focus on “player orientation”. UE4 was also key to finally getting the game on PlayStation and Xbox’s current-gen consoles. As for UE5, Anna Donlon has tempered expectations for the imminent future.
