Jamie Vardy continued his rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur fans by celebrating his record-breaking goal against them. The Leicester City veteran became the second 38+-year-old to score in the Premier League this season and helped his team secure a crucial victory.
Jamie Vardy celebrated reaching an elite group of Premier League legends in his trademark fashion - by trolling Tottenham supporters. Vardy's seventh Premier League goal of the season saw him join an exclusive club of top-flight veterans. The striker, who also boasts three assists, is now one of only five players to have been directly involved in 10 goals in a Premier League season aged 37 or over.
Unlike the other four members of this elite group, Vardy added his own unique flavour to the celebration, reigniting his long-standing feud with Spurs fans.The first goal in Vardy's record-breaking run ironically came against Ange Postecoglou's side in the reverse fixture back in August. During Leicester's return to the Premier League, the forward once again netted the Foxes' equaliser in a 1-1 draw. The 2016 title winner clearly enjoys reminding the Lilywhites that he has lifted the top-flight trophy, something they haven't managed.Vardy's recent antics proved even sweeter as he played a crucial role in Leicester's comeback to secure a 2-1 victory. Aged 38y 15d, he became the second 38+-year-old to score in the competition this season after Everton's Ashley Young. Leicester held on for a priceless three points, marking Tottenham's fourth consecutive Premier League defeat under Postecoglou. 'We have been playing some decent football for probably half a game and it has let us down a bit,' said Leicester manager Enzo Maresca. 'The lads there battled through for 90 minutes and it is credit too to the manager what he’s been doing on the training pitch.' At times you want to be the team playing the nice football but at times during a game, it is not on. We have all stuck together as a team. We knuckled down, stayed together and got the big win. Asked if Leicester can avoid the drop, Vardy added: '100 per cent back every single one of them. We all know what is at stake. We want to play nice football but that was three points in the right direction and hopefully the start of a run.'
