A dangerously low supply of donor blood in the state has prompted theVersiti Blood Center of Ohio to make an emergency appeal for blood donations.Versiti said
Versiti said their donation count last week was the lowest recorded this year with some types having less than a day of availability. The organization warns that this could force hospitals to delay treatments including surgeries, which could jeopardize the health and safety of patients depending on these life-saving treatments.
This past month, hospitals have also required a significant amount of donor blood for procedures such as trauma treatment and organ transplants. Versiti said all blood types are needed, but type O blood the most in demand, as O-positive is the most common blood type and O-negative can be universally received by all patients.
