The teenager was competing in the second race of the weekend when he lost control of his car in heavy rain, as seen in footage of the incident on social media. Visibility was so poor that another driver, Irishman Adam Fitzgerald, failed to see the spun Dutchman pointed the wrong way on the track, despite his bright orange livery, and crashed into the side of his car at high speed, catapulting his vehicle across the tarmac.
