After a prolonged winless streak, Max Verstappen's future with Red Bull is being questioned. Marc Priestley suggests Williams Racing as a potential destination for the Formula 1 champion should he leave the team.

After a winless streak spanning over three months, Verstappen finally secured a victory at the November Las Vegas Grand Prix. Red Bull 's uncharacteristic performance slump mid-way through the 2024 season has fueled speculation about Verstappen's future, particularly as his contract with the team expires in 2028. Former mechanic turned analyst Marc Priestley has suggested Williams Racing as a potential destination for Verstappen should he decide to depart Red Bull .

Priestley commented, 'The driver market is highly intricate at present because everyone is aligning their moves based on the 2026 regulation changes. You must select the team anticipated to produce the most competitive car, and it could be a team like Williams. It's a challenging decision.' Priestley further elaborated, 'If you're Max Verstappen, you'd consider McLaren, but they have two youthful drivers secured for the foreseeable future. Mercedes, though not currently at the pinnacle, is a renowned and highly proficient team. We also know Verstappen has engaged in extensive conversations with Mercedes. Another option could be Williams, which under James Vowles' leadership, is diligently preparing for 2026 with high aspirations. I am aware that they anticipate contending at the forefront with the elite teams on the grid, and it might present an opportunity for Verstappen.' Williams team principal James Vowles is determined to propel the team back to the front of the grid and made a significant acquisition ahead of 2025 by attracting Carlos Sainz to join Alexander Albon as their driver pairing. He added, 'Max Verstappen could potentially retire in the next few years. Following years of consistent victories, a temporary lull in trophy acquisitions could diminish his enthusiasm for the sport. If Verstappen switches teams and experiences success, he'll continue to win, but if he doesn't achieve his usual level of victories, I can confidently predict him leaving the sport sooner than most anticipate.
